clear glaze for p300

I have tried in vain to find a clear glaze that will not craze on P300. The
raspberry glaze in the MC6G book is lovely on P300 and I thought that it
would be a good clear, without the oxides, but it crazed as well. Does
anyone have a clear that has been tested on P300 that they would be willing
to share? Or any idea of how to 'fix' the rasberry glaze. Would adding
EPK help?

Hi Rosanne,

Since you have MC6Gs try Glossy Base 1 or Glossy Clear Liner. Where
Raspberry has a COE of 7.3 (units omitted, see Tom Buck's note),
these have calculated expansions of 6.8 and 6.6. If those still craze
try the low expansion glaze in Chapter 5. It has a calculated COE of
6.4. Although those Chapter 5 glazes are designed to help you zero in
on what expansion is appropriate for your clay body, they are also
good glazes in their own right. And if you are still having trouble
with crazing after all of that write Ron or me off-list and we will
see if we can help further.

Regards,

John

Thanks, John, I will give the other glazes a try. I just love the raspberry
glaze and I think that it took me by surprise when it crazed. I didn't
think that small of an amount of oxides would make a difference.

I should have tested!! Ah well, I'm back to testing now.
