Hi again,

I am about to start my winter firing which is ^6.

I opened the bucket which was mixed last spring
and my knowledge no binders or other organics were added.

The foul smell was overwhelming ...any ideas why ?
and will a few drops of bleach fix it without altering
the glaze.

TIA

Kathy McDonald

Hi Kathy,

Sounds like Hydrogen Sulphide is being produced by some anaerobes or other
in there who were working on some sort of organics...or even just working on
reduceing the even quite tiny amounts of Sulphur present in the Water itself
or in the glaze chemicals possibly in some form, or all three.

That or it is the calling card of old Beezelebub himself having visited the
bucket.

I there any 'black' layer or liquid?

Prolly...a good slug of Bleach would settle their hash...or just live with
it.

My kitchen Sink leaks and since I have not fixed it yet, I keep a bucket
under it, and well, that bucket has old Mr. H2S for a prolongued visit...if
people come over, I just gently pat my stomach with my palm and say,
"Oh...excuse me please..." and have a coy sheepish look...

"When Puppies eat Foam Rubber" is another classic occasion of one wondering,
"Oh ! Eeeesh! - what the heck is THAT smell???"
