Clayart Folk,
With some help, I am trying to set up my own website. I have some =
questions though. Could you help me please?=20

(i) Is registering one's domain name with godaddy the best plan? Are =
there better or cheaper places to register.=20

(ii) Is setting up the domain name entry in a DNS (domain name system) =
able to be done with godaddy as well?

(iii) How does one configure the web server to listen to the requests =
for the domain name? Can anyone recommend a DNS server with whom =
they've worked successfully? Can godaddy do it all and what would it =
cost if they could?

Thanks in advance for your help.=20

Meryl,
I use namecheap.com (and I have 20 or so domains in my account) and I
suggest it to any web design clients I have that don't want me to register
their domains for them.
They are slightly more expensive $8.88 but they also have a useable website=
,
and dont' try to sell me 50 billion crap offers, and don't spam me with
crap.
You can set your DNS stuff up at any registrar, no matter who you choose.
As for question number three, you need to buy some sort of web hosting and
they will most likely automatically set up that side of the DNS. There are =
a
million and a half providers out there, your ISP probably even offers some
sort of hosting. I use site5.com and I am very happy. I have experience wit=
h
dreamhost.com as well, they are not bad. Both of these places are not the
cheapest but very very reasonable. I have heard bad things about godaddy's
web hosting, but i've also heard of people that never have problems. I have
no experience with namecheap's hosting services (which they do offer, but
won't try to force on you when you register your domain).

I don't work for any of these companies, I am just a satisfied customer.
I will spare everyone my usual "hire a professional" rant.

Hope this answers your questions,
BJ Clark
