Hi Karen. Sent at the weekend. This may not have gone through.

Hi Karen for several years now I have fired my gas kiln using a digital
millivoltmeter.
When I started I had a chart which gave the relative temp equivalent for the
readings.
Now I hardly bother to look at the chart but use the cones and the knowledge
from previous readings to make the changes needed. Husband (electronics
man) put me onto it and I now find it hard to understand why potters seem to
be nervous of using it. they can run side by side to start with until you
get confidence. Good luck and would love to hear from you if you try it.
Regards and Best wishes Maggie

PS A digital multimeter (will read millivolts) costs about $20.00 New
Zealand. ( from Derek)

Subject: Pyrometer Question
Someone once told me that the only pyrometer to get was a digital, any
suggestion what brand, please share your experience.

Thanks,

A pyrometer is actually just a voltmeter that can measure very, very small
voltage current. And a digital controller is simply a pyrometer hooked up to
a computer chip that tells a relay when to turn the elements on and off.

When we discover that the seemingly complicated is actually simple, the fear
starts to go away.
