Hello everyone,

Well, I have written about this twice now and not a
Clayart squeek. So this is my last effort. Even a firm
"NO" would make me feel better (and a suggestion would
equal sublime heaven!)

Our German exchange student ('03-04) Lisa's brother
Daniel is deaf from meningitis. He does have a
cochlear implant.
He is 17 and spent last summer with us because he
loves pottery. He decided to become a potter. But it
doesn't work that way in Germany (no art in his
deaf-student highschool, no place to go) so he is off
clay until next summer. What he accomplished in the 3
weeks he was with me was amazing. Took him to Randy
Brodnax's workshop at Peters Valley. He loved it!

Daniel Walter is a very likable/lovable boy who will
try anything and works very hard. not afraid to take
initiative and help out with everything needed. And so
cute! Smart. He speaks quite good English, (went to a
normal school, English spoken, until last year) but it
is difficult for him to follow conversations in
English if they move fast.(same to non-deaf
visitors..). He tries and tries, always cheerful.

I am trying to find if there is a potter out there -
anywhere - who is willing to take him on as studio
helper (cleaning, doing repetitious things etc) part
of the time and learning/working with clay the other
part of the time. I am sure his parents will pay for
his keep (they have money) and he can work in exchange
for learning. (that would make him proud, to work in
exchange for something). He has about 6 weeks off,
starting later in July. And we are the safety net.

Could anyone please at least respond and tell me that
I'm nuts? I've heard it before...so why not again?Let
me put it this way: it's a choice between candy hearts
or a voodoo doll! :)
You don't have to speak German.

Marianne . On her knees.

PS He is very active, good skier, great snow-boarder,
all sorts of sports incl. mountain climbing, 4
languages, paints/draws etc etc : a normal boy in all
other ways. Popular with the girls, incl. my own
daughter :)
