looking for a particular shino

Fellow Clayarters:

I was at a show recently in Minnesota and saw some great Shino glazes.
One was the typical orange color which I have always liked and another
went to copper reds and greens. I was surprised to learn it was actually
a shino as it looked more like a reduction copper red. The artisan said
it was a glaze by, if I remember the name right, Jenny Wirt? Does
anyone know this glaze and formula and firing range? Thanks in advance.

Hi Llewellyn,

There is a really good article on shino in Studio Potter, (Revival
Fires: Another face of Shino by Jim Robinson). In it he mentions the
Wirt shino, plus a lot more. It's Vol. 21, number 1, still available
for $7.00.

Best wishes,

Lewellyn -

We have the recipe for Wirt's Carbontrap Shino at my studio. I can get it
for you and send it if you like.

The best resources I can think of for you would be Hank Murrow and Malcolm
Davis.
