Lots of news this time.

Firstly, as you may already know, Nancy Sweezy (former Director of Jugtown Pottery) and I have been co-curating an exhibition "The Potter's Eye: Art and Tradition in North Carolina Pottery," that opens next Sunday, October 30, at the North Carolina Museum of Art, on Blue Ridge Road in Raleigh. It runs through March 19, 2006. The project has preoccupied us for two years, and having almost completed the installation, I can say that it has all been well worthwhile. The show looks wonderful, the Museum has done a fabulous job, and we hope you will all come and enjoy these great pots, and gain, as indeed we have, a deeper appreciation of North Carolina's world-class ceramic heritage. It is a terrific honor to have been invited to undertake such an endeavor, and I am eternally grateful to the Museum for having invited me to take part in it.

For more information about the exhibition please go to

Nancy and I have also co-authored a 300 page, lavishly-illustrated hard-back book, "The Potter's Eye: Art and Pottery in North Carolina Pottery," that is a catalogue of the exhibition. Published by UNC Press, in association with NCMA, the book will be available next weekend at the Museum, and also at UNC Press. The book has been beautifully produced, and will be a permanent visual record of the exhibition, as well as providing written insights into the mysteries of ceramic beauty.

Jason Dowdle from Snow Camp, NC, took the wonderful images in the book, and his website is

The book will also be available at our upcoming KILN OPENING, which, as always, happens the first two weekends in December, in conjunction with the Chatham County Studio Tour.
