Dear Friends,
From time to time people ask about the changes that take place in a clay =
body as it is fired.
An article, "Microstructure Evolution in Kaolinitic Clay as a Function =
of Firing Temperature" has been published in INTERCERAM, 4, 2005, July =
Vol 54.
The X Ray diffraction plots show how minerals change as a Kaolin is =
heated and how new phases form.
Of interest to the Cone 6 workers is the statement that Quartz dissolves =
in a liquid phase at 1200=BA C. If this reaction is complete then one of =
the causes of Crazing should be eliminated.
Best regards,
Ivor Lewis.
