This brings me to an issue that is a thorn in my side.
I always look at prices when they are listed in the
pottery mags and try to figure how they came to
charge such fabulous prices. I then wonder if they
actually get those prices? I wonder if their egos are
as enormous as their prices? I wonder if they are egged
on by galleries, clients or being on Martha Stewart show?
I wonder if they sleep well at night? I wonder why I have trouble
marking my pieces up to compete with them?
So just for the Halibit.... I'm going to donate to a local charity auction
a porcelain one of a kind, multi-fired piece and put a $1100 price on it.
I really like the piece and would not be upset if it doesn't get sold as
I'd love to keep it.
If it sells for that or more I'll let you know and let you know how I feel
in the morning!
If you want to see the piece let me know and I'll take a digital of it.
I think my dilemma is that my goal has been to offer functional art to
people at
reasonable prices and have trouble inflating them. perhaps my goal was/is
impossible and/or warped and needs rethinking.
