5 day workshop timing : question

something else I have been thinking about, in general, with regard to
workshops.

seems that most 5 day workshops are on a Monday -Friday format.
Perhaps due to traditions based on our concept of the 5 day work week .

Sometimes I wonder if , say
a Thursday -Monday,
or Friday- Tuesday format might actually be more favorable for
attendees a couple of reasons

Same length...5 days

-Would allow people to fly in on Wednesday fly out on Tuesday (or in
Thursday/ out Wednesday)
to take advantage of generally lower air fares
-may or may not be favorable to locals, drivers, depending on local
traffic patterns
(generally ,in urban areas, trying to get ANYWHERE on a Friday evening
is frustrating, if not pointless....)
-hotel rates may be higher on weekend in some areas, but not all
areas, and not at all times of the year.

-would allow people with jobs to take off fewer days, as weekend days
would make up 2 of the 5 days

Just wondering what you think.
and wondering if we stick to the standard for good reason, or simply
habit....

best wishes!

Peters valley in New Jersey has always done the 5-day
workshops that way- fri-tue, 9-day from sat-sun. Works
well for everyone, attendees, instructors and those
who work in the studios during the week. . Hotel rates
in cities generally much lower on weekends when
business goes home. Marianne

One of the places I used to go to for technical training had classes:
Wed - Fri,
skip Sat-Sun,
and then class again Mon-Tue.

Rationale was the same as Stephani's, cheaper air-fare, etc. but this
schedule also gave you a weekend free to see the sights.

Not necessarily recommending, just commenting.

I helped run the North Country Studio Conference for a bunch of years
and it runs on a Wed-Sun schedule. Works fine, and it's kind of nice to
have the last night of the conference on Saturday night. At NCSC it's a
dance....
They have the 2005 info up:

It's every other year.
