Greetings Clayarters,

Dry wall ceiling began yesterday. Rented lift, it works. Half the lid is
installed. What would take a pro drywall crew 4 hours will take two days
for me, but that's ok.

I recieved an E-mail from CERF yesterday AM, stating that I would be
notified of their descision by tomarrow. So guess what. As exhausted as I
am, and every muscle screaming, I still woke at 3 AM, with mental gears
spinning. Back to sleep? It aint happening. Might as well read
yesterdays Clayart. Maybe let my friends here know where things are at.

The work on the 1/2 destroyed studio is progressing at a snails pace, but
it is progressing well. I found a very cool store up in Bend the other
day. It's Habitat for Humanity's "resale" store. All I can say is WOW!
Great stuff, and good prices too! Picked up a really nice entry door, with
a full length oval window (thermal pane too!) and a couple of very pretty
arched vinal framed thermal pane windows for over the bay doors. (the
corner over the bay doors got very hot, broke all the windows)

I can't stop worrying though, as it's taken just about all the cash for
lumber and materials to get where I am, with a weather tight building, and
a new ceiling. The electrician told me I had to get a ceiling in before
the power could happen, so that is what we are doing. And by days end
tomarrow I will be their. But without the interest free loan, there will
be no dough for power. (or kilns) As far as we can tell, we qualify,
according to CERFS criteria, but then when I think about the many Katrina
victems, and realize how lucky we are, I can't help but wonder what CERF
will do. (or not do)

I don't mean to whine, I'm just scared. So you guys get to listen. Sorry.
But who else am I gonna talk to? I'm right in the middle of "redneck
land". You wouldn't believe it if I told you. I've got people here that
talk about that "war over their in Europe." (yes they are refering to
Iraq!)

Anyway, the new drywall on the ceiling is encouraging! It's the first
really "pristene" thing in the studio since the fire. All clean and white,
instead of black smoked ugly.

I want to thank all of you once again, (I can never thank you all enough).
The progress made is because of you. Your encouragement has been
invaluble, in fact priceless.

Oh, and the tips on the drywall lift! What a machine! Makes the
impossible possible! Thanks a million!

Sincerely

PS My thoughts are dayly down in the Gulf Coast. I managed to quit having
crying jags a few days ago. (well, for the most part) I just had to quit
watching CNN all evening. Jeez, what is Mother trying to tell us? Will we
ever listen? Ever? And why is it that the only people that can hear her
are the ones without the power to respond? The Hopi of long long ago had
myth about this stuff. Some will say it's not the same thing. I
disagree. That wont matter though, I know.

Dear Leland,

My heart goes out to you, in a way even more so now
than immediately after the fire. The emotional agony
that sets in after such an event (I have a bit of
experience there) is so harsh and destructive - it can
also last much longer.
You will get the sleep and peace you need, I am sure
of that, but it may take a while.
Cry, go for it. You have reason to. And cry for
Katrina and all the displaced people. We all do,
inside or outside.

Then look at your lovely white ceiling and remember
the beautiful things you make, right in red-neck land.
We need them, too :). There are plenty of red-necks
right in the middle of New York City! But there are
still many creative, beautiful people like you
surrounding them.
I just took a deep sigh for you and hope CERF will be
able to help. If not: there is a reason for everything
and all will land on its feet (eventually)
Hang in there - the world needs people like you.

Marianne

CERF has decided that rather than the $8000.00 Phoenix loan, which we
applied for, and for which we believed we were eligible, that we qualify
instead for the $2000.00 quick loan.

This both good and bad, of course.

Though it was not mentioned, I can not help but to wonder, how do you spell
KATRINA?

There was also mention that they sometimes broker contributions/discounts
from manufacturers for equipment. All I can do is ask.

Drywall ceiling is finished. Never, ever, again. Never. That was the
last hoorah. Ouch. Two LONG LONG days on top of a ladder. Whine snivel
complain. But boy am I proud of myself. Looks nice.

With the studio at least rebuilt enough to be weather proof, I guess we'll
use their loan to get the electric up. Then sheetrock the walls.

It would be silly to buy a kiln with no power for it. Other than that, I
don't know what's next.

Meds. Sleep. I'll think about it all tommarow.
