If I can be of any help you are welcome to contact me
off list. I am proud to see several new people here
willing to jump in and not worry about it. Welcome!

I don't believe I can provide more than some insight
since tactile stimulation and repetitive motion is
needed but that is gained as you go. I can help you
understand how to obtain some of that through the
written word or rather help make sense to some
information you may find confusing. Once you start
applying that you will begin to understand how your
respond to the materials you work with and how it
responds to your movement and learned skills as you
grow into the process. We all know they are thousands
of self help books being sold out there so perhaps
there's something going on we don't know?

Bill Edwards YOU are MY HERO!!! Those are the most Beautiful words I have
ever read on this list !!! Thank you for that, it about brought tears to
my eyes....

I will also offer myself for any questions the newest potters have . I
would be happy to talk with any of you at any time. Giving back for all I have
been given is my only way to thank some very very dear friends. ps I
should add that I am mostly a functional potter who fires cone 10-11 gas
reduction with stoneware mainly so thats my strong point. I have forgotten more
than I remember since I left the wonderful stage of School and did so many
many things. But there are many on this list that can guide you in those
areas or turn you on to books specific to what imfo you seek..

2 Clayart people : Jeff Zameck "What every potter should Know" and Vince
Pitelka "Clay:A Studio Handbook" have written some of the newer basic
books on pottery that you could learn much from and having it at your
fingertips in written form is a wonderful thing .... I am sitting here with
Highwater Clay Catalog looking at the huge amount of books available to New and Old
Potters. WOW how I wish I had those when I began the journey . We also
have a member Steve Branfman who sells pottery books and it is important for
potters to support potters. If you can afford to purchase books thats an
awesome way to start the journey untill you can get into some classes or
workshops. and YES this list is a good resource for the questions you cant
find answers to or need immediate help on and cant wait for the book and cant
find in the archives. Most Libraries have inter-library loans if you cant
afford to buy and they dont carry what you want.

ps my 2 cents on what title to call yourself Pottery Student might be a
good start. ps I always hope to be a student of pottery my whole life so
dont be ashamed of this as one day you will definitely be a POTTER or STUDIO
POTTER if ya wanna be fancy but hopefully you will be a student of pottery
your whole life. NEVER STOP LEARNING and hopefully giving back to others that
come behind you..... .

Cat Jarosz in the wet wet mountains of NC. listening to Katrina's
progress and with heart ,prayers and all the zen I can muster going to those in
harms way right now. Not to mention If I wanna keep my clothes from being torn
to shreds I better get up and go play with my Curly dog LOL she has ahold of
my pant leg and is trying to drag me away from this puter...

Cat, I believe all of us sometimes qualify as being
'New' at differing stage of our lives. If we didn't
find that newness most of us would not be here. We are
a social creature that runs in packs and we need
association and kinship with like minds.

On a very rare occasion will I send someone to the
archives but I usually will tell them to contact me
just the same so we can both mull over the questions
and come up with a reasonable solution if not a
complete answer.
