alabama clay conference dates

The ACC is the best deal around for any clay conference. Attendance is
about 300 people each year plus or minus. I think that the state is happy
with the number of people attending each year and
does not feel that they should do more advertising. Just like with getting
concert tickets for concerts you know will sell out, find out what the game
is and play it well- make sure you get your registration in.

Chris,

I have to wholeheartedly agree with your evaluation of this Alabama Clay
Conference event from my one experience with the it. I had the pleasure
of being one of the presenters (along with Mel J. and Vince P.) ......back
in 2000 I think it was.......... and I was TOTALLY impressed with the
nature of the whole program. The organization..... the "intamacy" created
by the smaller grouop setting ......... and the level of interest and
participation from the attendees was first rate. Not to mention the way
Lowell Baker and the U. of Alabama at Tuscaloosa hosted those of us
presenting.

Anyone who can........ give this event a try. I think you'll be VERY
happy.

best,

.................john

Thank you to everyone who helped me track down the Alabama Clay Conference
organizers!

Many of you asked me to post the dates when I learned them. Here's what I
was told...

"....I've scheduled the Clay Conference for Feb. 24, 25, 26.....It should be
a lot of fun! Lots of stuff to see and do. Janet Mansfield, Richard Notkin
and Tip Toland so far, with more surprises, firings, show, music,
etc....Please tell as many as you can! The dates and the artists are all
locked in."

Any clue as to where they will have this? We would have liked to go last
year but only hear about it after it was all over. It seems advertising is
not their strong point.

The Alabama Clay conference will be held in Calera, Al at a Camping
facility(... I'm sure not as bad as it sounds) which is along I-65 about
eight miles away from The University of Montavallo or about 30 miles south
of Birmingham. In addition to the presenters listed already there will be a
variety of firings -salt, soda, train happening including an anagama
firing -unloading. There maybe will be a glass artist. Scott Meyer is the
coordinator and he teaches at Montavallo. Other contacts would be Georgine
Clark at the Alabama State Council on the Arts. The ACC does not advertise
the way you think they should. It is mostly people that have gone before or
are on the mailing list (not always true) or people read about it in
ceramics monthly. A blurb is usually posted in the January or February issue
in the Conferences section. The ACC is the best deal around for any clay
conference. Attendance is about 300 people each year plus or minus. I think

I know I can't wait for this year.
