gas supply pies fir kiln

I am planning a kiln and need some info about the natural gas supply pipes.
My kiln will be built out of some old electric kilns and I will need about
250000 BTU/hr at 6"wc.

How big of a supply pipe do I need?

The gas meter to my house uses 3/4" to supply my furnace which is a
100000btu/hr device. I wonder if asking the same pipe to supply 350000btu/hr
is going to be too much?

Thanks

Ben

First thing to do would be to contact your gas company and ask what pressure
you have coming out of the meter. With my small updraft a pressure of 7"w.c.
was required, and I didn't have it. Could have had pressure increased, but
my contractor said that might affect my current home gas appliances. I'm
sure a pressure regulator could have been installed to deal with increased
pressure, but after I found out how much the contractor said it would cost
to run the gas lines, I decided to go with propane.

So check out everything ahead.

How long is the run and how many elbows will you put in?

1 1/2 inch should do the job.

Yes! With natural gas, you need volume to provide proper BTU, so a 1 1/2"
dia.line should be good, depending how far it is coming from the meter to
the kiln. 3/4" won't make it! 11"wcp (water column pressure) is minimum
you will need , or else you will get into a stalemated heat condition if you
are going to cone 10 with a 12 cu.ft. or larger kiln!
