"flagging" tools

When Lauren Bellero was trying to identify the pin-type tool and
wondering how to keep it loyal, I suggested the following. She encouraged
me to post it.

"I too have a very similar dental tool and love it. I found the answer is
to "flag" this type of tool. I wrap the handle with brightly-colored
electricians tape (well, plastic tape from the dollar store.) Near
the end, I put one piece of tape part way around and leaving a "tail"
which then joins from the other side, forming a "flag" out the side of the
tool. This makes it wonderfully identifiable and also a huge boon....keeps
it from rolling.

I have two tiny dragon's eye tools from the Chinese Clayart Company which
are teeny, tiny little round grey (same color as my clay) plastic
things. I have them flagged and is my only hope of finding them.

The chop with my initials is also flagged as well as any very small,
bisqued stamps.

I also flag and label a brush if it is better than others for a specific job.

I guess I have been "flagging" for a long time. If I have a template or
some such that will get lost in a pile of books or magazines, I flag that
with a long piece of brightly-colored ribbon. My order book has hot pink
pages....I can find that too in my "piles."

Another way to "flag" a tool is to dip the end of it in nail polish.
It doesn't alter the handle, doesn't come off easily plus
there are some great colors out there now.
If you let it dry horizontally it will not roll.
