EXPERIENCED KILN BUILDER WANTED
FALL 2005
WESTERN COLORADO, USA
ROOM & BOARD (Good organic farmstead food),
SMALL STIPEND, HOSPITALITY AND TOUR OF REGION.
(2 weeks?)

KIT MODEL:
Olsen Updraft Kiln Kit 12 Cubic Ft. Ready to Set.
Frame is together. All materials are at hand.

Though Freds directions are explicit for the initiated. I fall short of that and can use
some paid help. Cone 10 propane.

About Us:
5 Acre Western Colorado Farm. Food and Wine destination district. We are also
goat cheese makers, garden growers, keep livestock and live in a paradise setting.

The emphasis all along has been to establish a permanent pottery at this site.

This might be an opportunity for US or international travelers who have wanted to
Visit the 4 Corners Area of the US. You will be treated well in exchange for your
knowledge in assembling this small kiln.

Western Colorado, remote, beautiful, snow capped mountains in the distance, lakes,
rivers, fishing, hiking, deserts, red rocks and a need to set up a kiln.

ONE LAST REQUEST FOR ASSISTANCE BEFORE I BEGIN
CONSTRUCTION BY MYSELF.

I have to cut bricks, set a door, build an arch and drill 5 --2 brick thick burner ports
and set a flue. I'd rather have the help of someone who has experience.

We live in a beautiful place and would not mind sponsoring a kiln builder with
experience.

Though I love this place it is sort of like being on the moon. A dirt road leaves 5th
Street in Delta, Colorado and can take you 150 miles without seeing another car and
into the remote slick rock areas of Eastern Utah.

Anyways my local towns here on the western slopes are Delta, Montrose, Grand
Junction, Paonia, Hotckiss, Cedaredge--within 45 min and Ridgeway, Ouray and
Telluride within 2 hours or less.

Locally if any of you know of any visible or hidden potters with kiln assembly
experience in my area? A friend of a friend etc?

And outside our area...would one of you, or someone you know be interested?

A resume, letter of recommendation and kiln building experience is required.

Will post photos of the area.

Please email direct.

Thank you.

Unlike a paid workshop; you don't pay me to come assemble it; I take care of you.
I think this is a little more in the direction of the way things should go these days.

I wanted to say that if this was 20-30 years ago I might have had a handful of friends
who would gladly gather around, that I don't have now. Where are they? Ask Tony
Clennell at 3am in the morning. Life goes on.

Joe:
I would suggest you talk to Donovan Palmquist(Master Kiln Builders). Phone: 612.789.1056
He lives in Minneapolis and built a kiln for me several years ago and I am very pleased with it.

All the best..

HOWDIE GROUP,

I'm doing a follow up. Been in touch with many nice folks on the subject.
Anyone I've been in contact with over the last few weeks, please give a shout on
status. I've lost a phone number or two.

Another Great Kiln Builder is Steve Gaynor 623-695-0716 here in AZ but he
make kilns from scratch for anyone in the USA. You can tell him Joyce White
told you to call. I am not getting any fees or bargains for his advertising,
just he is a GREAT fellow & friend ONLY that will try to help someone that
needs it.

Joyce......Hope this helps.
