First the glaze has to pull you in to want to touch it. It that happens the pot you pick up should be like a delight to touch. When I unload glaze samples I put them in piles...........solely based on the very first time I pick them up after that the tests that make into the "look" further pile are taken outside in sunlight and examined with my naked eye, then a magnifying glass to see what is going on. I love the satin matts with dolomite but as of late am using a glossy that just caresses your hand and feels fat .........or is that PHAT?

I have an old studio mate who handed me a sandpaper tumler that felt so awful in my hand I almost dropped it. I asked him why in the world he would put this glaze on a piece of work. He has cystic fibrosis and said that is what it felt like for him to breath everyday............the tumbler left me with a visual image and touch I will remember forever...........powerful.
