Frank, I'm going to be doing a kiln building workshop this fall and
have recently priced out the materials required for kiln construction.
Don't know what the dimensions of your kiln are but we will be building
basic 2ft cyclinders out of hardware cloth with a 2in 8lb density
blanket liner. The tops are removable. The bottom of the kilns consist
of a slab of soft brick. The liner is held in place with bottons and
high temp wire. The kilns will fire quite well on a single MR100 burner,
or one could go to a larger one. We'll be using the smaller propane
bottles for a fuel source. Hope to get at least 8 firings per bottle.
Now, like I said, I don't know doodley squat about your kiln but I'm
mistified about the price. The full propane bottles alone cost $42 in
these neck-o-the-woods. Additionally, a box of the blanket runs right at
about fifty bucks. I can get enough fiber for the lining of two cylinder
sides. Throw in the cost of the burner, hose, regulator, a nice gas cock
valve, fire brick, hardware cloth, and high temp wire and the cost goes
up pretty quickly. WHat are the dimensions of your kiln anyway?

By the way, why are you using 2",6 lb. blanket for your kiln lining when
1/2" x 6 lb density will do the same job at a considerably lower cost!
