Dear Clayarters
From the very bottom of our lifted up hearts, Judy and I thank you all so
very very much for the cards, letters and donations that have yet to stop
coming. Never in my life have I seen it so succinctly demonstrated that
there is still much good in the world.

When I think of the suffering, war, poverty and starvation in the Third
World, and elsewhere for that matter,(which I've been deeply troubled by
since childhood)I find myself asking "how can we deserve so much love and
caring?" I don't have an answer. Unless maybe it's that EVERYBODY deserves
it, just not everybody gets it. I guess maybe that's exactly whats wrong
with the world. I could go on and on with THAT train of thought. All I
know for absolute sure, is that when we get "Before The Wheel Enterprises"
back up and running, I owe the world the most "kick ass" pots (thanks Arti)
that these old hands can make. And that's what's gonna happen.

We've filled a 30 cubic yard dumpster with debris. I don't think I've ever
been so tired in all my life. Tomarrow I'll finish the last of the
raking. Then get inside and pull the ruined insulation our from between
the rafters. That's when I'll find out for sure how many of the joists and
how much of the sheeting might have to be replaced. (provided that is,
Deschutes County will allow the building to stand) (And THATS providing
that we decide letting it stand is the right thing to do)

Our electricion is on vacation, so maybe I can take a break for a couple
days.

Mmmm. No, probably not. Theres still EPK and Ball to be rebagged, and a
ton and a half of bagged clay needs moved somewhere. But now that the real
ugly part is out of the way, (removing debris) it feels a little more like
a clean slate. In fact, a lot more. I'm starting to visualize options.
Bigger. Better. More user friendly, more organised. Higher production.
Better pottery. It'll be good. I'm sure. Dont' know the nuts and bolts of
HOW it will happen. But I made it happen once, I'll do it again. Like
Kelly said, clay owns me, has for decades. Might as well admit defeat. As
the Borg used to say on Star Trek, "resistance is futile". Yes. It is.

Before The Wheel Enterprises
La pine, Oregon

Went to bed early, bone tired. Yodel dogs singing behind the knoll woke me
at midnight. I laid there with a tear of joy, it's just so wild sweet
their singing. (And my emotions have been raw of late.) Then to my suprise,
those strange other voices from across the slough, down in the big meadow.
Haven't heard this since early spring!! Could it be? Already? Is it
really September coming so soon? Are they really back so soon? Impossible
to describe. Sounds like aliens might. Gentle little squeels and chortles
and meuuuu's. AH!! They are back! Fall IS near, I know it now. Nights
are crisper. Cow elk, mother Wapiti, keeping track of this springs
calves. And each other. And this, and all you potters recent love and
giving and caring is a reminder to me that that's what we all need to be
doing. Keeping track of each other. I've been reminded of this these past
weeks like not in years. A lesson I needed apparently. This old universe
really tells it like it is, yes? I promise to be a better listener.

Leland.....

having been through it, what is so important to me is the tone of your
voice! You are truly on the way to some great lemonade! God speed! It
does make you humble doesn't it?
