I just received an email from NCECA about Portland in March.
I can't wait...... I LOVE Portland.....
Seems all the discounted hotels are in the SW section of the city
and the Convention center is located in the NE section.
These two sections of town are divided E-W by Burnside Street
and N-S by the Willamette River. There aren't short walks in between
these discounted hotels (on NCECA's website) and the Convention center
like we have been used to in past NCECA's. However, the
Portland public transportation system is fabulous.....

For those that are on a budget and don't mind hostels. There are two
great ones in the city under 30$ per night to stay in a male-only,
female-only or co-ed bunk room.
Frankly I think both hostels should be filled with clayarters for the whole
NCECA week.
One is west of the Conv Center on NW Glisan (Gleesan) Street across the
Burnside Bridge
to the Convention Center, The other is a little closer, south of the Conv.
Center
but on the same side of the river. The short drive up MLK Blvd/Grand is nice
during rush hour
and the Bagdad Theater and Pub (where part of the movie What the Bleep Do We
Know was filmed) is just down the street from the hostel.

I have no connection with these two hostels except for being a guest many
times.
I like them best for the good company and the kitchen they provide when I
travel alone.
It's best to get a membership before or at the hostel for an additional
discount...
