contacts in minneapolis?

Fellow List Members,

Coming out of lurk mode to seek advice...

I=B9ll be in Minneapolis next week with my girlfriend touring the
Minneapolis/St Paul area for housing for her coming grad school studies at
UM. Having more than a passing interest in moving with her I would likely
want to take courses in undergraduate ceramics on the same campus.

Not knowing a thing about the program at UM I called minutes ago and was
advised there are no ceramics professors present on campus during summer. I
was also advised they do not offer a BFA in ceramics. Rather it=B9s a general
BFA where you can concentrate studies in an area of interest.

Do we have residents of the area or alums of the program on this list to
fill the info void regarding studying ceramics at UM?

Looking forward to learning more. Thanks in advance for any and all
guidance.

Steve,

Your best bet, and you need to get a move on, is to contact the registrar and see if you can still get registered. Get your transcripts, etc ready. You may need to make an application or go through the transfer process. All I know, is you need to do this ASAP. If you can't get in, I recommended taking classes with Ernest Miller at Fired Up or the Minnetonka Art Center. Visit his web site at: http://www.ernestmiller.com

He is a personal friend, prolithic potter, and a very very good teacher. He also kicks my butt at Halo 2..but not for long.

Tony,

Thanks for the advice.

As far as classes, late signup at UM should be fine if courses are taken
through continuing education (aka CCE). I can apply course credits to a
degree program after gaining admission for a later term. I'll stop in CCE
next week to learn the details and possibly enroll in a single course.

As for UM, I'm most concerned about teaching qualities and if this is a goo=
d
place to learn about materials, visualization, and forms.

Thanks for the link to Ernest Miller. Lovely forms. Especially the vases.
