There you go, Carole!

Thanks for performing this test for all the electric firers out there
on clayart.

Wahoo! I tried staining the edge of the cones with RIO and if I stepped back
a little ways from the peep with my welders glasses on, I was able to see
the cones. A second cone pack close by on the shelves seems to have
registered the same heatwork. Thanks for all suggestions.

Carole,
You should not put RIO on your cones as this can change the melting point.
When I worked at Orton we had samples of how oxides on the cones changed the
cone.

You might try painting horizontal lines on a piece of insulating brick and
placing it behind the cone pack. This allows you to see the tips of the
cones as they are falling.

Respectfully,

Tim

Carole, ran an experiment, after our discussion the other week. Sounds like results were promising. Sounds like you are suggesting that she continue the experiment for a few more firings. Good idea Carole.

Tim,

What about marking cones with cobalt carb or black iron oxide? What's the
impact there?

Thanks,
