Craig, I don't think you used too many element pins. Some types of kilns
require them. I would definitely not remove them. My post about element pins
applied mainly to Paragon kilns or to any kiln that has a dropped, recessed
groove.

We do place a pin at each corner of the element grooves in the Dragon kiln.
But we ordinarily avoid them in the round kilns. We used them in the lids of
our earlier glass kilns.

On the topic of pins, it is important to avoid shorting them out against
each other inside the firebricks. If a pin is too long, it can even short
out against the kiln case. An element pin should press down over a single
coil of element wire. It should not touch multiple coils.
