kiln placement

I have a fairly small kiln shed that we just finished building.

We lined the inside in fireboard, just to be safe, and then my old 7 cu ft
electric sits a foot from any wall.

Someone just offered me a kiln I couldn't refuse - a 1970's EconoKiln, about
5 cu ft, that had been fired about 10 times over the years, + shelves &
posts, for $50.

Question - the kiln shed is SMALL. I know that I need to have the kilns
themselves at least 12" from any wall or combustible surface, but do the
kilns need to be 12" from each other?

I'd like to make one a bique kiln and one a galze, or one mine and one for
my students, if I can make them fit into their space properly (the kilns,
not the students, though I've tried that, too.)

I'd also like to keep my glazes and a table for glazing in there - how far
does each kiln need to be from, say, a wood table or a rubbermaid cabinet
(that I keep chemicals in?)

Thanks -

Kilns should be at least 3 feet apart. Otherwise the heat can build up
around the kilns and cause switches to fail.

Align the kilns so that the switch boxes are toward the front and not toward
another kiln.

Keep the room temperature below 110 degrees F. (Measure temperature 3 feet
from the kilns.) In the summer you could use a fan to increase air
circulation and lower room temperature. The fan should blow air across the
kiln switch boxes but not into peepholes.

I know of a case where a kiln was fired in a small room at night with
windows and doors closed. The ambient room temperature was so high that the
kiln's plastic switch knobs deformed, and of course switches burned out
regularly.

The table should be kept at least 12 inches from the kilns. The distance for
the Rubbermaid cabinet would depend on the room temperature. You might ask
the cabinet manufacturer.
