Hello Clayarters. I just got a Fireball Oxyprobe from Axner and have a
question. Should the oxyprobe be moved around while the kiln is firing
(from one hole to another) or should it be left in one spot and
operating throughout the firing? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dont move the probe,, i bring ther meter in the house but i leave the probe
in the kiln. I was going to fire my other kiln and was going to move the probe
and the thin wire broke and i now have to ship the probe back to Axner for
repair and it sounds like lots of MONEY..the wire broke where the probe meets
the back of the kiln. Two different colors on the wire,

dont move the PROBE,,

Just my $.02

I installed my Oxyprobe in the back of my updraft. Drilling a hole the size
of the porcelain tube. I mount the sensor and leave it in place. Just unhook
the unit after every firing. Keeps the peep holes clear and less wear and
possible damage to the sensor from having to move it often.

I wouldn't dare move my probe once the kilne starts to get up to
temperature. I'm afraid that the thermal shock of pulling it into open air
and then reinserting it into the kiln would be very detrimental to the
longevity of the probe. I have mine located in the center of the roof and it
stays there.
