tax exporting to the uk / gail's awkward supplier

updated wed 11 may 05

Janet Kaiser @ The Chapel of Art on wed 11 may 05

If you are sending or contemplating exporting ware to the UK, you may be=
interested to know that from anywhere outside the European Union (EU)=
goods worth =A318 sterling or more are liable to 17.5% of import duty=
(VAT) plus a "clearance fee" which the carrier is free to charge at will.

Gifts with a given value of =A336 or more are also subject to exactly the=
same duty and charges, so beware!

Sorry you are having difficulties with the Ohaus Weights Supplier, Gail,=
but I think it is really amusing to see the guy actually has the reason=
for his ungracious response in his signature...

That really has to be a bad hair day, doesn't it? LOL!!

Sincerely

Janet Kaiser -- Over =A330 poorer after accepting a few more tiles sent=
from USA... There goes my pocket money for treats on holiday next week=
Why, oh why is it so difficult to give a nominal value on a customs=
declaration instead of an inflated amount which will only attract the=
attention of the Customs and Excise man?
