The Mashiko Toki-ichi (10 day pottery festival) went well. It was the
first time I participated. Shared space (27 meters by 50 meters) with a
friend from France (Genvieve.) The best part of the whole event was
meeting potters. Potters here are always busy. I think the festival is
the only time they sit still for very long. I met a young Kasama potter,
Izumi, you makes Korean inspired pottery. He uses Kohiki (white slip)
and scraffitos through the slip to make designs: fish, lotuses, etc and
then covers with a thin clear glaze. You can see some of his work here:

I traded and have 3 pieces of his work I will photo tomorrow and put up.

He introduced me to a clay miner and processor whose quarry is about 12
minutes from my house. I bought six 20kg bags of clay, half standard
Mashiko Nami and half Mashiko red. Cost 600yen a bag (200 yen less than
the clay Co-Op. ) I threw some tests and it is really great to work
with. You can see black specks of organic material in the light colored
clay. The red clay is ocher colored. Will try to get some tests into
Euan's kiln, next firing.

You can see the clay quarry pond here:
