Merely out of curiosity, I'm wondering why.
I think in our co-op the gas kiln potters use only soaps for all =
firings, and I'd never heard a distinctiion made based on glaze type.=20

Diane Winters, in a rush - the tax man cometh and wanteth much too much. =
Maybe they'd like some very nice tiles in lieu of money.

I use soaps because they are BTU's hungry. Wouldn't work for everyone but
works for me.

Opposite end of equation had a friend whose glazes were getting too
crystallized so they used regular kiln stilts, thinner shelves, didn't load
as heavy and the problem went away.

Please forgive my ignorance but what are you talking about here with regard
to "soaps?" I'm imagining you're using bars of Dove as stilts.....

They are half of a regular fire brick cut length wise. When I was in Western
Samoa as a child, there was a small factory that made a brown soap in that
shape from copra (coconut). It wasn't exactly bath soap.
