eucalyptus root handle/stoneware tray?basket?

Hello all,

For several years we had a silver dollar eucalyptus tree planted in a wooden
half barrel. At some point, we had a frost and the tree died. When we later
removed the tree, dumping everything on the ground, I saw that the tap root
had grown around the interior of the barrel, forming a circular shape. I
saved it, of course! After cutting off a larger diam. part, and the skinny
end of the root, I had quite a nice semi-circle left.

I just posted a photo of how I've used it, on our website (click on "For
Clayart").

I'm not sure whether to call it a "Tray with handle", or "Stoneware
Basket"...am wondering if technically a basket must be woven...maybe this is
a basket shape. Anyway, I finally got it done, and I was lucky enough to
get the shrinkage right.

Hi Anne,

A little late, but...

I missed this post back in April, but have looked at the piece you refer to
now. I would suggest calling the piece a "candy basket" and serving

in it!

Good health...

Helen

can water the grass anytime.)

Hi Helen...thanks for your response and idea for a name. That never ocurred
to me because the piece is big- 19" long. I should add the dimensions to
the picture, I guess.

Best,
Ann
