Hi there,

I am a student studying ceramics in England. I am in my first year and I
have to do a project on chinese alkaline glazes- which I know very little
about. I have been reading, what is thought of over here as the authority
on chinese glazes, Nigel Wood's book which has been interesting. However, it
hasn't helped me with the practical side of actually producing some glazes.
I am really worried as the deadline is looming and I'm not making much
progress.
Does anyone out there have any advice or even some glaze recipes for me to
try?
I have managed to buy 500gms of potassium nitrate as I understand that this
was what the chinese originally used but I don't know in what quantities or
what with.

I would be SOOOOOOOOO grateful if anyone were to shed some light on this
for me. A friend of mine gave me your website because she said that a
number of you helped her enormously and she is now on her way to actually
firing her tests! (she is doing copper reds).

With Best Regards
Yours Gratefully,
Susan Higgs-Endres

susan,
Don't know if anyone has contacted you offline, but on line no-one seems to
have responded.
Try Chinese Stoneware Glazes by Joseph Grebanier isbn - 0823006255
you might have to do some rounding up and down.
Best Wishes, Pat.
