mc6 glossy base 2 plus ashes from my fireplace

My last ^6 firing was a good one! I used a bit of ashes from my fireplace,
coarsely sifted just to get the big chunks of cinder out, and mixed it with
mc6 glossy base 2, then added enough h20 to make it brush able. I brushed it
over the top third of a pot glazed with Licorice (which is also glossy base
2 with oxides). When I had done a melt test with the ash alone, it was a
lovely grass green with brown streaks, so I thought I would get a black pot
with green runnels, but I got a black pot with blue cascades. Lots of depth.

As a side note, a friend has been using this same batch of ash on malcome's
red shino in the ^10 gas kiln with wonderful results, the resulting colors
are in the warm range, cream to rust.

Isn't it wonderful that one thing, ash I shoveled out of the fireplace, can
look so different depending on how it is used?
