misc: juried shows; trimming bottles

I will say it again. When you enter a juried show you are paying to =
have people impose their vision and their aesthetic on your work. Which =
is fine...if you realize that is what you are getting. I have no idea =
when the order came that trimming bottles is bad, but those folks got =
their orders alright.

I have no idea whether YOU should trim your bottles or not. With some =
shapes I have found I need to remove some clay at the base, with other =
shapes I have not. I do what I think best. Why don't you give that a =
whirl?

I am running out of analogies: but think of your pots as having =
messages. This mug says: hot tea is so invigorating and cuddling me is =
such a comfort; that mug says: Tea is a sit-up-straight social =
occasion, and I am primp, proper and porcelain for it." This bottle =
wants to be filled with switchel and go a'haying. That one wants to sit =
in the parlor and hold one perfect rose.

I know it sounds insane, but you should look at your pot and let it talk =
to you. "No, I don't feel comfortable wearing Nikes with a prom dress" =
that sort of thing.

There IS a still small voice speaking pot to potter.... Listen for it.=20
