shino and ash glaze tests

updated fri 8 apr 05

DMCARTS@AOL.COM on sat 2 apr 05

I've been meaning to post images of a few bowls with different shino and ash
glazes for some time now. They are all ^10 R. stoneware or porcelain. Fired in
a 20c.f. updraft natural gas kiln at 7200ft. elevation.

Just for fun, any guesses what the two ingredients are that make up the dry
yellow glaze?...Pic #28 is my submission to the Shino show in Baltimore. The

Michael,

Fantasitc work! (As usual)

I am guessing Alberta and Ash.

And another possibility could be Lizella and Ash.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful glazes,

Hi Michael,

My guess: ash and kaolin.

It looks a lot like some we've done here.

Hi Micheal - Ash and magnesium? It's pretty dry.

I am delighted (and after reading all the posts about pots broken in
transit, relieved) to say that the pot in pic #28 is now displayed in my
house. Folks who saw it at the Shino show in Baltimore know the pic only
hints at how gorgeous the pot is. I was also delighted to find out that D.
Michael Coffee is a clayarter -- it makes the pot that much more special.
