You need back pressure to get reduction at any temp level!

Come on!

My Olympic Torchbearer experience was less than desirable. Bailey, on the
other hand, has me smiling.

Torchbearer Gas model 2327 G?

Yes, and the experience so far has not been good. Thank goodness I
got it used and paid 1/2 cost of new. Have made some modifications
and got it to fire fairly evenly.
Unless you have some idea what you are doing firing a gas kiln, I
wouldn't recommend this one.

Up until now, I've only fired an electric kiln but I just love that cone
10 reduction look, so I'm thinking of getting a gas kiln. Has anyone had
experience with the Olympic Torchbearer Gas model 2327 G?
Thanks

Yes, and if you email seperately I can tell you exactly how to fire it. I've
got it dialed in perfect now :>)
After 3 years and sifting through suggestions from lots of helpers and
bunches of trial changes..

Michelle I bought and 2723 G when I got back into potting about 3 years ago.
The instructions that came with it were terrible. It fires hotter on the
top than the bottom like 4 cones difference if you just go by the
instructions. I ended up getting a used electric and have not got around to
using the 2723 g since. I wasted a lot of pots on it. I plan on trying it
again with Dales instructions that are written below. He seems to be able
to get it right. The difference I found with electric vs the gas is that
you have to pretty much stay with the gas to make sure the wind doesn't blow
the burners out plus you have to monitor the gas unless you have an endless
supply. It is not near as convenient as electric. If you get the gas right
it is nice, but it takes a great deal of effort and has a great learning
curve.

Here are Dale's instruction and his comments can be found in the archives.

"Hi Guys,
It seems I've ( with all your help) finally gotten my 12cu. ft. torchbeares
firing down pat. Only a couple degrees difference in top/bottom whole firing
up to cone 9. The trick was the flame spreaders on two of the four burner
ports. I used 2" posts, one on each side of hole, then layed a 5" post
across horiz. up against wall. Perfect!! That left a bit of space before
bottom shelf at 4" posts. All shelves with 1" gap between halves and
staggered 90 degrees each shelf layer. I use a 1/2 shelf at 2 1/2" from
inside port opening intop.

Now......
No matter what I do I cannot get a decent reduction at all. I've tried at
cone 8 ( I fire to cone 9), cone 06 and even at 1100 degrees since someone
told me it would help carbon trap shino. No luck. No reduction even after
one hour and the higher cone I try it, the harder it is to keep from blowing
its self out and needing restart ( whoosh!) . Whats the scope guys, turning
gas way down, what? It sure drops temp when trying at cone 8, sets way back
in firing and zero effects.
TIA,
Dale
