Yes, it can, Charles--that's how we originally had it on the poster, with
the request that the note say it was for the Jared Branfman fund, but Tim
sent me the above address, which I believe he set up especially for this
purpose...

Jean -
I never thought that the intention was to collect money at the conference,
so I guess you did pretty well. The intention was to get the word out to
Clayarters and other NCECA attendees of the need to support the Branfmans,
in the hopes that they will send a contribution via mail or PayPal.

I have basic confidence in the ability and inclinations of humans to help
someone in need, and clay people are pretty special in that regard, and
Clayarters are even more special. I have confidence that most people who
take the time to read that flyer will send something to the Jared fund. We
can all afford to send something, and cumulatively it will really help. And
of course, what goes around comes around. Any one of us might need the same
kind of support some day. Steve has given so much to the ceramics
community, and I hope that people will show some kindness and compassion and
give something in return.

I cannot imagine ignoring the plea to help the Branfmans. It is so easy to
help, and I cannot imagine not helping. My conscience couldn't handle that.

Again, for anyone who didn't see it before, the mailing address is for
contributions is:
Jared Branfman Fund
c/o Tim Pattison
1010 Centre Street
Newton, MA 02459

and the PayPal address is jared.branfman.fund@rcn.com. It is very easy to
join PayPal - just go to www.paypal.com and click "sign up." Then you can
buy great stuff on eBay, and also contribute to the Branfman fund.

We were only able to collect $209 this year for Jared's fund.
I have mailed this money to the Jared Branfman Fund.

If anyone meant to donate and didn't get a chance, here is the address:
Jared Branfman Fund
c/o Tim Pattison
1010 Centre Street
Newton, MA 02459
I feel so bad for this family! They are lovely people. I remember
when Jared came to NCECA with Steven maybe three years ago. They
were in the ClayArt room.

It is also possible to pay with PayPal to the above address.

Jean

Hi, Jean and list--the poster had this address on it, from Tim Pattison:
jared.branfman.fund@rcn.com --that might be more direct.

Hi, Jean,

Just a small addition: to use PayPal via email, donations should go to the
following email address:
jared.branfman.fund@rcn.com.

I am not sure, but it may also be possible to use PayPal by sending to the
address of Tim Pattison, a Branfman friend, who is managing the fund.

Does anyone know if PayPal can be handled that way?

Thanks, Jean, for the care you have given the Jared Fund and the Branfman
family.

Thanks all for all of your help. Several Clayart folks have explained my
error by mistaking the information as a "link"... oops... my bad. I did in fact
take the suggestion of going to the PayPal website, clicked on "send money", and
then dropped the email address where it was supposed to go. Donated my money,
and got a confirmation. Easy enough.

Thanks for all of your assistance everyone. All taken care of now. :-)

Hi Vince,

I already have a PayPal account set up... so I thought it'd be easy to
contribute to the fund for Jared... however, when I went to the link you posted --->
jared.branfman.fund@rcn.com I only saw the "main" page of the RCN
website... and wasn't sure how to navigate to find where the Branfman fund was located.
I even put Jared Branfman Fund in their search engine and got nothing... what
gives?

Ken,

I have forwarded your email to Tim Pattison who is managing the fund. I
hope he will be able to send you an answer.

Hello, Ken,

jared.branfman.fund@rcn.com is not a link... it is an email address
which is used as a PayPal account identifier.

After you login to PayPal, you click on the Send Money tab, then
enter jared.branfman.fund@rcn.com in the "Recipient's email address",
enter the amount you wish to donate and continue normally from there.

Works like a charm.

Regards,
Maurice

ps Nice seeing you at NCECA!

What you're calling a "linK" appears to be simply an email address (don't
put any www's in front of it). When you pay by PayPal you can pay directly
to any email address that's connected to a PayPal account. I've done it
before in a different situation, and don't recall exactly how the PayPal
form is set up, but basically you just log into your account page on the
PayPal, click to make a payment and enter the email address in the recipient
or pay-to field.

Now I haven't yet tried to pay to this particular email address yet, so
maybe there is some difficulty and I'll feel sheepish about telling you all
how simple it is.

I love the speed and ease of paying through PayPal, though I recall (or
don't actually recall in datail, because I've repressed the memory) of
having some sort of idiotic catch-22 snafu in the process of getting my bank
account and the PayPal system introduced to one another. I buy on eBay and
it's made cross-currency transactions such a snap that I don't think twice
about buying from overseas anymore. Usual disclaimer - no connection with
the company.

Ken -
That's not a link. It's an email address. Go to www.paypal.com, log in to
your account (or set one up if you don't have one), and click "send money."
It will bring up a form where you enter the above email address, the amount
of money you want to send, plus some other information. In the message box,
be sure to write a note, including the informaiton that the donation is from
a Clayart member. When you click "pay," it will indicate that
jared.branfman.fund@rcn.com is an email address confirmed by PayPal.
