Surfing with Helen Bates - February 24th., 2005 - USA, UK, Norway

Hi, back at the surfing again!

Here we go then...

David Waln (Summerville, OR, USA)
Waln is a "functional" potter, making bowls, mugs, platters, urns, and
other useful ware, much of which is quietly decorated with moonlit
pinewoods scenes and the like. (Mentioned in a Clayart post in
December 2004 re: glaze tension test method)

20th Century Marks (Little Burstead, Essex, England, UK)
The company carries a very large stock of original UK 20th Century
design items, including decent studio pottery, by name and anonymous

Ole Krongaard and Anne Kari Ramberg (Sandefjord, Norway)
Strong design. Ramberg is a thrower and also makes figural sculptures.
Krongaard, who is also a sculptor, is a hand builder. (See Ole's
"Growth Stones.")

Aurea Carter Antiques (London, England, UK)
18th and early 19th century English pottery and porcelain
(Very interesting)

Kristen Kieffer (Worcester, MA, USA)
The pieces are, as Kieffer says, "ornately functional."
(The Forms are thrown, then altered and built. Surfaces are
embellished with stamping, sprigging, and slip trailing)

Ceramic Masterworks: 1962-2002 Exhibition (Philadelphia, PA, USA)
(Moderne Gallery, with Helen Drutt: Philadelphia)

Artists: Rudolf Staffel, Paul Soldner, Wayne Higby, Kenneth Ferguson,
William Daley, Robert Turner, Raymond Grimm, Betty Woodman, Daniel
Rhodes. (Scroll down for images)

Cornell Alumni Woodfire (Cornell College, Cornell, IA, USA)
(A nice little online show of pieces from the fire, September 2004)

Have fun!
