For those driving to Baltimore, I encourage you to stop at the Torpedo Factory Art Center (TFAC) in
Old Town Alexandria, VA, to visit its 14 ceramic galleries and studios. The TFAC is free and open
to the public 10 am to 5 pm daily. During NCECA there will be two terrific shows at TFAC:

"Fertile Earth: Islamic Influences in Contemporary Ceramics. " - An important cross-cultural
exhibition - At Target Gallery, March 17 through April 24, 2005. The nine artists in Fertile Earth
use the decoration and techniques from the rich artistic heritage of the Islamic World to
demonstrate how contemporary artists are keeping ancient styles and methods alive. These
sculptors are among the most lauded in the world of ceramic art. Reception: March 20, 5 to 8
pm. Panel at 6 pm on cross-cultural influences in ceramics. Information: 703-838-4565 ext 4.
