HI
I am making this request on behalf of another tilemaker who is
researching and reproducing some
very authentic Tunisian style majolica tile.
he would like to find a reliable majolica glaze
using lead
yeah , nasty old lead
white lead, lead carb, etc.....
no lead frits, please
though maybe lead bisilicate OK
I dunno , he wants it as traditional as possible.

I know the safety cautions

this person is a pro and has a hygienic studio
and can handle the lead properly and safely

so if you have a recipe to share
please send it to me off list
thanks much!

Stephani, I got these recipes from a 1947 edition called: "Formulario =20=

y Practicas de Ceramica" by J. Llorens Artigas. It is a spanish book =20=

from Casa Editorial Gustavo Gili S.A located in Barcelona Spain.
They list these glazes as Barnices de Plomo or lead glazes 850c-900c
I will give the spanish names of the materials in case you want to =20
research the meanings and choose the most appropiate, even though I =20
have done that. You might want to research anyway

Base Opaca (Opaque Base)

Minio-lead oxide 75
Arena- grog? 25
Feldespato -feldspar 15 I assume they mean potash as the writer says =20=

that is the most commonly =
used.
esta=F1o - tin oxide 15

They also list all the recipes for the various colours, which are =20
mainly the base with colour oxides added, for example
Turquoise is listed as opaque base 100% with 1% copper oxide.
Green is listed as opaque base 100% with 5% copper oxide

If you need more info let me know
Best regards
