I am interested in building a mft. If you have built one, how do you like
it? How are the firing cycles, consistencies, and your general
experiences? Email me at CraigKitzman@verizon.net thanks.

I have not used one yet, but, like you, I am just about to build one. I
do have one recommendation when designing your kiln...

Recently I was speaking with Mark Ward ( http://wardburner.com ) about
power burner sizes, gas line capacity, etc. I mentioned that I was
going to build a MFT. Mark told me that if I intend to fire an MFT with
power burners, that I should make the exit flue size bigger than the
typical MFT plans suggest. =20

If you are planning to use power burners, you may wish to heed his
advice, or at least make your exit flue size easy to adjust. =20

also, BTW... If you have not already seen Nils Lou's book (
The_Art_of_Firing ) you may wish to get or borrow a copy. It is the
authoritative treatise on MFTs. =20

To all interested in the MFT,
We are going to have an article on building the MFT in the March/ April =
2005 issue of Pottery Making Illustrated. This article is authored by =
Mel Jacobson and Kurt Wild in association with Nils Lou, the originator =
of the MFT. They have built a number of these kilns and the plans for =
this one are based on the kiln they built for Kurt. There will be =
schematic plans and tips. This article is a wealth of info for anyone =
considering building the MFT. Thanks.
