There are still some openings in our Pete Pinnell Workshop on Saturday and
Sunday, February 19-20 2005, in Sewanee, Tennessee. Pete will focus on
designing and throwing bowls, and we are limiting the workshop to 18
participants (so that everyone will have real time with Pete to talk about
and work on individual problems). The workshop will run from 9:00-4:00 on
Saturday, and 9:00-3:00 on Sunday. Pete will demonstrate, and then we will
each work on pieces while he talks to each participant individually. He will
show slides as well, and each day we're devoting an hour to glaze/firing
problems. Pete encourages participants to bring examples of the problems
that they're having, and he'll put his "Glaze Doctor" hat on and see what
suggestions he can make.
The cost of the workshop is $150, which includes lunches both days, and you
may bring your own clay or buy clay from us (cone 6-10 porcelain or
The St. Andrew's-Sewanee School Gallery is hosting Pete's workshop and will
have an exhibition of his work on display. St. Andrew's-Sewanee is located
just outside of Sewanee, which is 5 miles from I-24 (exit #134) on the tip
of the Cumberland Plateau between Nashville and Chattanooga in Tennessee. We
are 90 miles southeast of Nashville, and 50 miles northwest of Chattanooga,
and there is an inexpensive shuttle that runs from both airports (and the
Atlanta airport) right to Sewanee. There are several motels in the area -
the Smokehouse (a Best Western hotel) at 1-800-489-2091 or the Regency Inn
(931-924-2221) in Monteagle, or the Sewanee Inn (931-598-1686) in Sewanee.
There are also several decent places to eat in and near Sewanee, ranging
from "fancy" dinner places (2) to sandwich and pizza places (several).
If you would like to talk about the workshop or register for it, contact me
at 931-968-0210 ext. 3165, or send an email to email@example.com.
