Hello Potters,

I know we've had pricing discussions ad nauseum. However, I'd like to =
offer a bit of a different spin. Our Guild is having a pricing =
discussion at our next meeting, so we're trying to do some research on =
what folks are getting for various items. Of course I realize there are =
a myriad of factors affecting one's prices, including style, quality, =
part of the country, or world, in which one is selling, but do you think =
some comparison price lists would be fun and interesting, and useful as =
a guidepost for those struggling with this issue (and don't we all - or =
most of us, at any rate)? Toward this end, below is a list of items and =
prices that I get for some standard functional items. Thank you to =
those who choose to participate in this little exercise. I am providing =
price ranges for items of different sizes, which I indicate in =
parentheses. If you wish, you can see examples of my work at =
pottersguildnj.org. By the way, I am from north central New Jersey, so =
I consider my market to be the New York Metropolitan area. Please =
indicate your location. Thanks much.

I've added my price ranges below in parens. My work is very plain and
functional, and my market in North Carolina is accustomed to getting
pottery fairly cheaply.

Subject: Pricing - again!

Here are some of my basics. Last summer was my first year of selling - been
a hobbyist for five years.

Mug -----14.00
Deep soup bowl ----13.50
Dinner plate -----22.00
Covered casserole ---55-65
Open baking dish/ large pie plate ----- 30.00
Sushi plate (slab built, rectangular) 20-24

On a slightly different thread, I have been asked to do tiles for a kitchen
backsplash, by a lady for whom I just did a dinnerware set. I made sushi
plates - rectangular, about 5 x 12 inches, and priced them at 20/each. She
wants similar tiles, about 4 X 8, without a lip, of course. I can't expect
her to pay 20 per tile. I know all about figuring my actual costs, including
R&D and overhead, but what does the public EXPECT something like this to
cost? There are to be 80 tiles, some plain glazed, some with abstract
swirls, and about ten with a more complicated relief pattern. Any ball-park
numbers you could throw my way would be appreciated.

Hi all,
My prices are in the 2nd parenthesis. My work has brushwork, but not
many additions. Casseroles have no handles, just a flared rim. As my
thumb joint arthritis progresses I expect to raise these prices.
