Hiya;

There are '100 yen store' in the states. I know there is one in a mall in
San Bruno CA, [or near Daly City] In New York, there is one in China town on
Grand and Mulberry. There is also one in Astoria, Queens called Samurai.
They sell cute and unusual Japanese kitchen wares for one dollar, and file
folders that come in A4 sizes and you can't fit your 8x11 paper in them.
Also, tea strainers that come in 2 sizes. I went to all of them this spring
and stock up on lunchboxes. It was the first time I saw some ghastly
japanese teabowls- slipcased to look like hand made, with fake hand-made
irregular marks - like machine made pasta that has fake finger prints in
them.

I think I've seen tea strainers baskets sold in Muji here in London.

May,

What is Muji and where is it? I'm hoping to get up to London in January to
do some research at the British Museum, and would usually stop off in
Convent Garden to go to Neal Street East; but it has shut down. I'm
devistated and would love to find a replacement! Is Muji similar?

Neal Street East has CLOSED!? No, there is no replacement. ;-(

Muji is a chain of small Japanese department stores. There is one in Oxford
Street and I think there is still one in Carnaby Street. There are several
more around town.

I think you'll find what you're looking for in China town (while it still
exists).
