If you have not added Bentonite to the glaze straight off--and, =
following Fraser, I always add, except for slip galzes, doing the =
Calcium chloride or Epsom Salts in the wet or "slop" mix, you do not =
need to find a blender. Take about a pint of the well stirred up glaze, =
place in shallow wide pan so it spreads as thin as possible, dry out =
over night. Wearing your mask, add the dry bentonite to dry glaze, =
smoosh it up well, so the bentonite is distributed, and add water. =
Sieve before adding to slop pail. Then sieve the whole thing.

To reduction by "doing things" and "adding stuff" I say NO. There =
are electric kiln reduction glazes, using silicon carbide. Read up on =
them. But any modification to your electric kiln better be done by an =
expert. Any modification that can increase the danger of fire better be =
done by an expert and in a place where there is no hazard to building,. =
house, like that.
Any modification to your kiln, gas tanksin house, who knows, may =
ENDANGER YOUR INSURANCE POLICY. AND ANNOY ZONING AND FIRE DEPARTMENTS.

As I understand it there now are combo kilns, and go look there, and =
check with "everyone" before you take that route.

I do not know why so many potters act as though they were =
multi-millionaires, and to hell with common sense. So I turn the =
neighbors curtains black, and kill the koi in their pond? Sue me! So =
I burn down the neighborhood, and so on? Sue me!
Most of us are not in that financial bracket. I know some are, bless =
you. But even Deep Pocket Potters should be thoughtful and take care.

Now. Last year same time I had trouble with two potted lemon trees. =
Asked for advice. Between Dannon and Mr Goldsobel we even got three =
lemons! Thanks.

Thanks also to all the Mevinim who are so kind and so thoughtful and so =
generous generous. Is there any other trade in which the Best and =
Brightest--the prize winners, the super successes, the Great Teachers =
fling advice about? Think on it! Do Nobel Prize winners, and Best =
Selling Authors, and Professor of this and That, and CEOs hand out =
advice as though it were PJ sandwiches? Thank you for all that--and for =
maintaining the humility of craft.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST. Thank you Bonnie Hellman. Unsung heroine of =
Clayart. I tremble at the thought of tax forms, and thank goodness we =
have a very nice accountant. But thank you Bonnie for all the priceless =
advice you give. I read every word, and I thank you--because you are =
generous and kind and detailed and clear and help people a lot. Even if =
it is limited to "talking points" with their accountant.

Slip glazes being those to which you add some clay? That's what I'm doing,
at this point...

Will borax work here, too as well as Epsom Salts?

Thanks, Lili...

Head down, plowing on ahead...
