had a great photo shoot with mark trockman,
former student, and professional photographer.

we have worked together on many projects.
i was his first photo teacher, now he is mine.

the new digital camera is awesome. we used
it totally manual, f32 at an average of 8 seconds.
iso 100. flood lights, the new sun/fluorescent.
lower light than floods, but better color.
got great depth of field. no hot spots.

we hung a great deal of black paper as shields...and
that worked very well.

as many of you know, i have published hundreds of my
photos in the various magazines, and did all the pix
for my book. my nikon film camera is wonderful, micro
lens. six photofloods. f32/2 seconds. fuji film. gray formica backdrop.

entering the high end digital world is opening another
door. and the learning curve will have to take place. just
like learning photoshop, or any computer. it will happen.
mark has been doing digital from the opening bell. he will
be a great mentor. he works for cash and pots/i trained
him well there too. we all win.

thanks to all of you that led me to great information
and digital websites. that helped me a great deal.

i got my first rollieflex when i was 19 years old.
still have two of them. i saw the first nikon to come
to mpls in 1954. only leicas before that. it changed
the world and moved the photojournalist from 4x5 to 2 1/4
to 35mm color. those were fun times to be a part of.
so, project for cm is done.
we are looking for 5 `killer` pix.

Morning Mel:

I recently picked up some of the fluorescent blubs you mention, I plan to
use them for starting my zinnias and thought they might just help fight sad
in the studio during gloomy winter days.

Wondering if you used diffuser fabric when doing these pictures. Would you
please tell us a bit more about the setup that you and your photographer
used ?
Thank you. MarjB.
