great FREE programs

There was a brief problem that I encountered when originally
attempting to access the site and haven't had a chance to go back since.
I will however return in that I'm interesested in what is reported. In
doing so I have this particular machine innoculated, debugged, scratch
tested, sniffed, cleaned and chock-full-o da latest stuff to beat those
pasty faced little geek hackers out there who may have hacked the site.
To anyone who is having any problems with the viri, worms, etc.,
that have become so prevalent our only consistent defense is one of
dilligence and active engagement. I use the latest McAfee (gotta pay for
this) which is self updating as well as a spam/virus scan available from
my ISP for a coupla bucks a month. THis alone has saved me many hundreds
of dollars in lost time. But that is not enough.
Here are some links to some of the best programs available to help
fight the spammers, scanners and other internet spies who are actively
trying to monitor key strokes, highjack machines and otherwise ruin a
persons day........just for shits and giggles in many instances. Keep in
mind that Bill Gates and Microsoft are still the biggest fish in the
pond and because of this are the primary targerts of the hacker and spy
community. To start a shift to Firefox Mozilla and FireFox Thunderbird
is an advisable thing to do, of even better, just take the plunge and go
over to Linux. Not much happens to the folks who use Linux as a platform
and it is FREE. Here's the link for Mozilla http://www.mozilla.org/
To try and keep ahead of the spammers, spies and pop-up yahoos these
programs work quite well and are also FREE. They are CWShredder and Ad
Aware. BOth are available from one of our local computer geek programs
web site called Technology Bytes. It broadcasts every Wednesday evening
from 8pm to 10 pm on Pacifica and is available on the web. Their web
site is geekradio.com . Just go there and check out the downloads. Get
spybot as well. None of these programs are memory hogs and they all work
very well....here's the link http://www.geekradio.com/
Hope this helps
