how to clean venturi burners

Does anyone know where I can find instructions for cleaning 25 year old
venturi burners? Also, is it possible that impurities in a newly-refilled
propane tank could interfere with the efficiency of my venturi burners?
Many thanks, Michele Reed

More likely that it is bugs attracted to the 'smell' that they put in
fuels for detecting leaks. Bugs can build nests in your orifices.

Are these Ransoms? My directions are for those: Ransoms allow you to
unscrew the piping (that has the orifice in it) from the burner. Take
that off. Find a sewing needle that fits easily in the orifice hole and
ream it out. Try to look and see if there is any thing in the larger
part of the orifice fitting.

As for the burners you will be cleaning out the holes in the burner
head by pushing something into each hole. I have a rat tail file that
fits, but you could use any kind of wire that's a tight fit. Then
GENTLY rap on the burner using a hammer, with the hind end of the
burner( opposite from the head) on the floor. Turn and rap until all
the scale has fallen out. You'll have rust scale and maybe carbon
scale. I also scrape the inside of the burner body with the rat tail
file, but rapping on it works best.

Then you can grind up the scale and make a burner-cleaning-iron glaze!

Good Luck
Jennifer, proud owner of Ransoms that I bought in 1975. I think I've
gotten my value out of them......

Hi Michele,

...what are the made out of? what metals or materials?

If they are Cast Iron, you may clean them in a plastic
Bucket and 'draino'. Just let them soak someplace warm for a
few days or something. Neutralize them afterward with some
Vinegar and lots of clean water. You could boil them in
'draino' in a stainless steel pot or other too for that
matter....simmer them I mean, for a few hours.

Iron will clean up very well that way...
