Hi all,
Normally I lurk, or reply off list, but with all the excitement about Mel
and Joe's chinese glazes, and John's book, I thought this was the perfect
time to mention the great travel program run by Bob Anderson of West
Virginia University.

Check out: http:// wvuchina.blogspot.com

This link is yet to be updated for the coming year, but it will give you a
good idea of what to expect. I travelled with him this past summer, and
aside from being a great, down-to-earth potter and educator, Bob has been
running trips and exchanges to/from China for over 10 yrs. He is well
known, and well loved there, so this is not your average group tour by any
means. It includes WORKING time as well as watching time, and is directly
geared to those of us with clay addictions.

China is an astonishing place ... the only evidence you could need to
support a theory of parrallel universes ... and it is changing rapidly,
(that comment about cement shortages being tied to construction in China
makes perfect sense to me!). See it NOW!

Anyone interested in a degree program in Ceramics that's still about pottery
should check out West Virginia's program too. Bob has set up a complete
production studio as part of it, so students can really learn about running
a professional studio before graduating. Also check out the semester long
program based in Jingdezhen, the center of porcelain production for the
past 1000 years. Not a bad way to get college credit!

And for all of you who are teachers at a specialized arts high school, or
school within a school set up, you need to know about the Surdna Foundation
Fellowship program. www.surdna.org
That's how I got to go.

Nikki.
