Gary, you would make my dreams come true, to make at least one more batch
of the old CS and get that beautiful waxy matte white glaze again. I
would be happy to give you my stash of the "green stuff," ugh!!! Sounds
like a good project for this winter. On top of that I would also get to
meet you as well. Better get my floor files cleaned up!!

Warm regards,

Bonnie Staffel of Charlevoix, MI.

Bonnie,
You're welcome. I'm wondering, I made a 40/40/20 slip glaze using apple
ash ( can't remember if I used Custer or Kona) and it had an opaque
satiny whitish quality and took copper carbonate nicely. I think it is
on the "Cpooer Greed Dragon Pot". (see that typo? I told ya I type
disflecic) Will be interesting to try. I'd still like to try your recipe
though.
You don't have to give me your "green stuff", I think I have enough for
the winter. And don't worry about your floors, if I could handle living
at Peter's farm I can handle anything. As to when I'd take another trip
down I think I'll need to to sell wreaths. Sold my load of Balsam to
Teal and he's stopped buying. Peter already got cutoff on spruce for Ma
Chock's too. Others are still buying but it could be a short season
cause a lot of people are brushing this year for extra money just to
make ends meet. Good thing I invested in a wreath machine and rings.
Terry Teal suggested I wait to cut my brush for wreaths till the 10th.
of October or so, after we get a bit colder. If I make now the wreaths
could dry out too much by Thanksgiving. I think I'll take this time to
finish the foundation for the kiln. I'll still cut some white pine and
cedar though, somebody will want it.
Thanks for the invite, see ya when I see ya, if not, well, see ya and
stay in there!

http://public.fotki.com/GindaUP/ (the copper green Dragon Pot is in
about the middle of the Old Pots album. You can see how the apple ahs
stiffened the glaze as opposed to how pine would tend toward transparent
and runny. I think that's what happened anyway, that was 15 years ago
and that 12 year bender didn't help, so well, like I say, I got a lot of
catching up to do. Need to meditate on growing a new hipacampus out of
my indigenous stem sells.)
