Hello all-

I have moved back to the Washington DC area (grew up in Alexandria) and I am
interested in hooking up with individuals that have a passion for
clay-specifically woodfiring.

I am also looking for property/building in the DC area to live and/or have
studio in. If you are so inclined, please respond to Clayart.

Thnaks,

Mark Lewis

There are a number of wood fire fans in the area. Mary Bowren and John T=
heis have beautiful large anigama and nobrigama kilns respectively. Bill=
van Gilder has a wood fire kiln as well and there are a number of others=
I have a feeling that finding an existing kiln or property to build on=
e within 20 miles of DC is going to be very difficult, although firing wi=
th others will be more likely. Hood College sometimes offers workshops, =
John does too through Montgomery Potters and Langley Potters. Kevin Crow=
e lives farther out, but also offers workshops occasionally. The three p=
ottery clubs in the area can offer more info-Montgomery Potters, the Kiln=
Club and the Ceramic Guild. And NCECA will be in Baltimore this year-a =
great place to hook up with locals I'm sure! =20

Call Joyce Michaud at Hood College in Frederick, MD. She fires wood
often. She can tell you where to find others in the area.

Mark,

I too have recently moved to DC and have been looking for studio space with a highfire reduction kiln.
Fortunately I met someone who has a woodburning kiln which i to am very interested in doing, but it is north of the city about 60miles.
The commute hasn't been too bad. I enjoy getting back to rural.
It would be great meet you and compare notes.
I'm currently living in NW DC, east of Dupont Circle, quite a change from southwest Minnesota.
Let me know if and when you'd like to meet over a cup of coffee.
