i just heard a rumor that kathy f is getting
a 25,000$ grant from apple computer....if
she can get six people on clayart to switch from pc.
:) it will never happen.

yellow.
the chinese, we believe, made yellow from
yellow iron. ochre.
try an oxidized clear glaze with yellow iron...see what
happens. ? it seems we always look for exotic chemistry.
folks rarely try simple things.
you might even get a million dollars.
you can share it with kathy.

and, a side note.
i am very, very proud of lori leary.
she has completed a dream of getting her mfa.
she is a wonderful clayart friend.
dedicated to clay and this community.
she is a very smart cookie. and she
had big, very big hurdles to get over...and
when you are 5 feet tall, some of those hurdles
were almost impossible.
she made it.

she also got a perfect score on the georgia nurses
state boards....years ago, but the only one to ever do it.
is she a smartypants?
she is the hero folks.

Yep, that's what I was using...turned reddish brown...

Dogonnit, that's what I'm trying to do! The K.I.S.S. principle appears
to be eluding me...will try it with the clear glaze though...

Soitenly, plenty to go around.

And yes, congrats to Lori!

Go ahead, Melsan, make my day!

Now if someone had invested $7225 in 555 shares of Apple stock just 18=20=

months ago, they'd already have that Apple grant.

Talking with a fellow clayarter last week, I realized why, though I=20
wholly love and appreciate this group and make sculpture using clay, I=20=

don't consider myself a ceramist. It's a cult! ...and I'm already full=20=

up on cults. I've got the Mac cult thing going (there are a few others=20=

on this list, you know who you are :) and the art cult, to a degree. I=20=

used to be involved with the NYC cult, but now see it from afar. Then=20
there's the politics cult which is overwhelmingly consuming right now.=20=

I've missed out on some of the more widespread devotions, but there are=20=

plenty others to go around.

When I studied sculpture with Jos=E9 de Creeft, that was like being in a=20=

cult. We were his discipulae and he was maestro and il mio professore.=20=

We ate lived breathed slept his world view -- and he had been born in=20
1884 Spain, so it was vastly different! I had a geographic break with=20
Jos=E9 when I went back to my college to try to get the residential=20
credit I needed to graduate. It didn't work out then and I ended up=20
back in NY and presented myself to him and felt I'd become an=20
iconoclast, as though our love and faith was broken. I worked hard to=20
repair it but never really got back the unconditional surrender I'd=20
once had.

Back in art school later, it was easier to see how the teachers=20
demanded obeisance and allegiance. If you accept their canon, you will=20=

learn. And if you survive your education, you will develop your own=20
standards and vows.

One of my favorite and simplest Mac principles, applied equally to=20
other computers, is "if you can't figure out how to do something, look=20=

at the menu from left to right, top to bottom." As for vows, I don't=20
have my own, I'm still totally in the Mac thrall. Though a friend and I=20=

did design a non-denominational voice-activated search browser.

What would I possibly do with that...?
Either I find my list or it's Della Robbia Yellow Macs for All!

Hi Kate,
Thanks for the kind words.... Sorry my response is so late, for some
reason my ISP put your (and several other) Clayart letters in my spam
folder.
Anyway, I've enjoyed the discussion.
I have also enjoyed your posts, it's always great to have new folks on
board.
Best regards,
Lori

Mysterious are the ways of the Internet! I finally found out what MY
problem was, not receiving my own posts (even when I sent them to MYSELF,
directly.) Spammers have figured out how to put us in our own blocked
senders list! I looked, when my ISP suggested that, and there I was!

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....must remove the finger-and-toenails of these people,
sloooooooowly...

Best--
Kate
